Hunter Classes

Hunters in Classes 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 19 will be judged on quality, manners, ride, conformation, soundness and action, and are not eligible to compete in the Hack or Riding Horse classes.

Hunters, 4 years old or over, to be ridden.  At the discretion of the Judges any Hunter in a class which in their opinion is up to more than the specified weight may be directed to the next weight class. 

All Hunter classes will be judged under Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain Rules 2010.  SHB (GB) require all entries in the Hunter classes to be registered.

Classes 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 19 and the Working Hunter Championship are qualifying events for the Royal International Horse Show and only horses registered on the 2010 Show Hunter Register are eligible to enter.  Registration numbers must be quoted on entry forms and owners and riders must be members of the Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain. 

The two highest placed horses in each class will qualify to compete at the Royal International Horse Show.  No horse lower than second in its class will qualify.  In the Working Hunter classes (ie. Lightweight and Heavyweight) the four horses forward for the Championship will qualify for the Royal International Horse Show.

Classes 13, 14, 15 and 17 are qualifying events for the National Hunter Supreme Championship Show.The three highest placed horses in each class will qualify.  No horse lower than third in its class will qualify.

The Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) will award Special Rosettes to the highest placed Pure of Part Bred Irish Draught exhibit in Classes 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 19.  All exhibits must be registered or identified with the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) on either their IDHS (GB) or IDSH Registers.

Class 10 Novice Lightweight Hunter
Mare or gelding, four years old and over, capable of carrying up to 13 stone, not having won a first prize of £50 or a total of £200 (or equivalent values) in prize money in any Ridden Hunter classes at home or abroad, before 1st January in the current year, excepting all prize money awarded as a four year old. This does not apply to Novice Working Hunter Classes. Any horse tht qualifies for Horse of the Year Show, in a Ridden Hunter class (not including Working Hunter classes) will not be eligible to compete in Novice classes from 1st January the following year but horses that qualified for HOYS as a 4 year old are exempt.

Class 11 Novice Heavyweight Hunter
Mare or gelding, four years old and over, capable of carrying over 13 stone, not having won a first prize of £50 or a total of £200 (or equivalent values) in prize money in any Ridden Hunter classes at home or abroad, before 1st January in the current year, excepting all prize money awarded as a four year old. This does not apply to Novice Working Hunter Classes. Novice Hunter Championship
For the best Novice Hunter in the Show, to be judged from the 1st and 2nd prize-winners in Classes 10 and 11. Class prize-winners eligible for the Championship must compete or forfeit their class prize money.

Class 5 Four, Five and Six Year Old Flat Ridden Sport Horse
This class is a qualifier for the Winergy Equilibrium Flat Ridden Sport Horse Championship to be held at the National Hunter Supreme Championships Show at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire on 8th September 2010.Horses to be shown on the flat, will not be required to jump. Snaffle bridles must be worn. Note. The favoured discipline e.g. dressage, eventing or show jumping, for each exhibit MUST be stated on the entry form. Horses have to be registered with SHB(GB).  Horses will not be ridden by the judge but will be required to give a short individual show of walk, trot, canter & gallop
Prizes: £30; £20; £10.  Rosettes to 6th place.  Competitors placed 1st - 6th will receive a Free 1 Month Winergy Feed trial.
£25 to highest placed Four Year Old.
Class 12 Four Year Old Hunter
Hunters must not be galloped as a class, and they must change the rein.

Hunter Championship

Ladies Hunter, mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, to be ridden by a lady side-saddle.

Working Hunter Classes

To be judged under 2010 SHB (GB) Rules). To be judged 60% for jumping performance, 40% as for hunter classes. The jumping to be judged 40% for actual jumping, 20% for style and presence, 40% for ride and conformation. Fences to be a minimum of eight and maximum of twelve in number and a maximum of 1.14m (3'9") in height at the discretion of the judges. Fences should have a natural appearance and not be easily dislodged. No un-numbered obstacle can be included in the course. The manner of going to be taken into account. No change of rider or tack is allowed (unless a horse is ridden under side-saddle, in which case, in order to allow the judge to ride, the saddle may be changed for the riding phase only). A rider can ride up to two horses in the jumping phase but then must select only one horse to take forward into the ride and conformation section if so required (no change of rider is allowed). All entries must be registered with the SHB(GB) and the four horses forward to the Championship will qualify to compete at the Royal International Horse Show. Grade A showjumpers and Grade I event horses are excluded from competing in Working Hunter classes. All obstacles are to be numbered. Horses may be equipped with boots of a plain colour for the jumping phase only. No hind boots or bandages of any description are allowed in the collecting ring, warm up or in the actual class.

Current approved BSI or European Standard hard hat / skull cap must be worn during the jumping phase (navy blue / black cover).

The Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) will award Special Rosettes to the highest placed Pure of Part Bred Irish Draght exhibit in Classes 6 and 7. Amateur Hunter Classes

A person is an amateur for showing purposes, when showing ridden hunters in an amateur class, if he or she does not:
1)  Engage in livery, buying, selling, dealing or hiring horses as a means of deriving a main source of income. Since 1st January 2008.
2)  Accept remuneration whether it be monetary or goods in kind for employment in connection with horses in a racing, showing or livery stable or riding school (instruction at Pony Club and Riding Club excepted). Since 1st January 2008.
3)  Show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm, or a horse for which his or her immediate family accepts livery or training charges from a person outside the immediate concern. Since 1st January 2008.
4)  Show a horse which a professional rider has qualified in the Weight or Small Ridden Hunter Class for either the Horse of the Year Show or the Royal International Horse Show during the current year, unless the horse has subsequently been re-registered under new ownership.
5)  Professional show persons must not enter the Amateur Ring whilst the classes are in progress.
6)  A professional rider must not ride or exercise an amateur’s horse on the day it is competing in amateur classes.

Class 8 Amateur Lightweight Hunter
