Equestrian competitions in 2009 included the DAKS Pony Club Mounted Games, The Shetland Pony Grand National,  Skill at Arms and Tent Pegging (military equestrian competitions dating back to the 1700s).

Key Displays in 2009 included The Musical Drive of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery (Sunday only).

Highlights

For a quirky bit of English military competition the Tent Pegging and Skill at Arms are unbeatable.

The Musical Drive of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery comprises six teams of ten horses, each with seven riders, plus four officers and four Section Commanders. They are all Irish Draughts (type of horse), all cared for by the soldier riding it with a crucial back up team to provide extra support. The Drive combines daring moves carried out at varying speeds to dramatic music.
